How to Lower Triglycerides

How to Lower Triglycerides

Most people hear they have an elevation in some part of their blood work and start to wonder what medication they must take. However, you can take matters into your own hands, and begin to lower the triglycerides in your blood yourself. You can make changes in your lifestyle to help get the job done.

Instructions

    1

Follow a diet that helps your body manufacture less triglycerides in your blood.

    2

Omit, not limit, alcohol and sugars. Water is your best choice of beverage, but you can have other drinks that don't have added sugar.

    3

Fry nothing. You need to pass over fried foods if you want to lower your triglycerides--plain and simple.

    4

Eat more chicken and fish. People who enjoy steak and potatoes need to rethink their meat choices and save this meal for special occasions. Beef is OK, but only in moderation.

    5

Consume leafy green vegetables daily. Add in some deep yellow vegetables and fruits, particularly apples, to round out your day. You can eat as many vegetables as you want, and you should have three servings of fruits. One serving of citrus fruit provides your recommended daily vitamin C intake.

    6

Munch only small amounts of bread, but not at every meal. Make that one serving of bread a whole-grain serving.

    7

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 on a daily basis to keep the fat levels in your blood lower, which helps you to maintain lower triglycerides.
