When people hear the word yeast as it relates to the human body, they often think about vaginal yeast infections. What some people may not realize is that sometimes people, male or female, can have too much yeast inside their bodies. This overgrowth of yeast can be found in warm moist places such as a persons mouth, a condition called thrush, in a persons intestinal tract, or as commonly known, in the vaginal area. In some cases, a person has allergic reactions to the yeast. This can cause infection, rash or fatigue. Although yeast is naturally occurring in the body, some people are very sensitive to it, and have to try to decrease the amount of yeast that is in their bodies.
Instructions
- 1
Avoid antibiotics if possible. When antibiotics attack the bacteria for which they were originally intended, they may also kill some of the good bacteria that lives in your body.
2Consider taking probiotics. Probiotics are live microorganisms, in most cases, bacteria, that are similar to beneficial microorganisms found in the human gut. These can be found in supplement form and can also be found naturally in certain cultured foods, such as yogurt. Two different forms of probiotics include Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. They are often used to combat yeast in the gastrointestinal system and to promote gut health in general.
3Consider the use of enzymes. There are some products designed specifically to help fight yeast. Most of these are designed for use along with probiotics.
4Significantly reduce the consumption of sugary foods and juices in your diet. Refined sugars encourage the growth of yeast. You may also want to eliminate foods which contain yeast, such as breads and crackers, at least for a period of time.
5Try grapefruit seed extract, which can be found in most health food stores. This is a bitter and acidic liquid derived from the seeds, pulp and white membranes of grapefruit. Use several drops of the extract after each meal or a few times a day. Dilute it with at least 4 oz. of liquid before drinking it. Some people prefer to dilute it in juice because of the bitter taste.
6Use an antifungal medication or yeast treatment prescribed by a doctor.
